What it adds

• Your Calibre library as the bookshelf. Home shows today's reading, streaks and "Continue reading"; the Store has the whole library as books or series, with filters and sorting. Books you import go into Calibre.
• Accounts with permissions, added by an admin. Progress, statistics, highlights and settings sync across devices.
• Offline reading: books on Home download in the background, and progress made offline uploads when the server is back.
• Highlights and notes in four colours, and full-text search that ignores furigana.
• Audiobooks that highlight the line being read, from a file or an Audiobookshelf server. No subtitles? Whisper makes them in the browser.
• Anki mining with Yomitan: cards get the sentence's audio and, in visual novels, the screenshot and voice of the line you mined, backlogs included. NEW!
• AI helpers, off until you turn them on, with your own keys: Ask AI, spoiler-free "Story so far" recaps, a lorebook, and read-aloud.
• Manga (CBZ/ZIP) in a page-turning reader.
• Visual novels played in the browser with CONscripter. The text is laid over the game for Yomitan, backlogs and choices too, and counted in your stats. Saves sync across devices, and admins update the engine from the admin panel.
• Difficulty estimates from Jiten's features, computed on your server: a score, the vocabulary you need, and how many of the book's kanji you have met.

Setup

You need Docker with the Compose plugin. Set the library folder and how you reach the server in .env, then:

C:\CHIMIM~1> docker compose up -d
C:\CHIMIM~1> docker compose exec account ebook-account initial-admin

The last command prints the password of the first account, admin. Use an existing Calibre library or start an empty one, on your own computer or on a server behind HTTPS: the setup guide covers each case.
